What is 925 Sterling Silver?

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The minimum millesimal fineness is 925.
Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing large functional objects, and in Sterling the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give strength whilst preserving the ductility of the silver and a high precious metal content. Other metals can replace the copper.
Affixing
On the back of the mezuzah is a silver line that marks the site for gluing the mezuzah to the doorframe. This design goes well with narrow doorframes and is especially suitable for the inner doors of the house and for children's rooms.
Some designs have a round silver plate welded to the back of the mezuzah.This serves for affixing the mezuzah to the doorframe with little nails or screws.
External Coating
All the Mezuzah Cases are coated with a shiny protective lacquer.It is advised not to scrub the Mezuzah case with strong toxic detergents that might disintegrate the lacquer.
