Amethyst Gemstone Jewelry: Chip Necklaces
Amethyst is a violet or purple gemstone from the quartz family. As purple is the color of royalty, since ancient times the stone was popular with the rich and powerful leaders and monarchs. In the past Amethyst was very expensive like diamonds and rubies, but recently, after giant mines were found, prices dropped. Today it is mined in locations all over the world, notablly in Brazil, Uruguay, South Korea, Austria, Russia, India, Africa and the United States. The color and shape varies depending on it's origin. The Ancient Greeks and Romans believed Amethyst can protect one from drunkedness and therefore drank wine out of Amethyst vessels. Medieval European soldiers wore amethyst amulets as protection in battle, believing the stone can heal people and keep them cool-headed. In metaphysics, Amethyst is associated with the Crown Chakra located at the top of the skull. It can therefore be used in meditation to open up wisdom and communication to the universal consciousness. It imparts peace and tranquility, and helps smooth out any negative feelings.
